Our team of volunteers is tasked with identifying children from poor and vulnerable families. Orphans and children born to single mothers are identified in certain local schools in Uganda and Jamaica and are helped with uniforms, books, pens, sanitary pads, washing soap and other basic items. Our teams are able to make this possible with funding from donations and the foundation's tutoring activities.
Death of parents leads to the orphans dropping out of school due to failure to meet school fees requirements. Whereas the governments of Uganda and Jamaica have tried to put in place free education for the poor population, some fees contributions are expected to access that education. NV Grier foundation identifies those children in selected villages and is helping them to realize their education dreams.
The foundation in its capacity has not yet started a school but it is partnering with already established schools that educate orphans and homeless children. The foundation procures some rations of grain mill and supplies to those schools to help them meet some feeding requirements for certain days. This largely depends on the availability of donations since feeding is a nonstop event.
We purchase and supply raw materials for making traditional craft items to the talented children. This enables them to use their leisure time productively. We gift the outstanding materials to our good donors and others sold off to have an extra sustenance fund for the talented children
Despite the problems they have in life, these children are gifted with many talents and painting art pieces is one of them. We buy art canvases, colors and painting brushes for these children to help build their special talents. The collection of these art pieces will soon be displayed on the foundation website and social media pages.
Vocational schools in Uganda and Jamaica are a better option for young girls and boys who can not afford fees for high school. The foundation helps selected children from poor families to contribute for their training in carpentry, plumbing, tailoring, hair dressing and driving. These skills are a hope for sustainability of these selected candidates.
We hope to provide and build water harnessing tanks in the communities where these children come from. These tanks can collect and store water when the rains fall. These Children suffer from diseases like Diarrhea, Cholera, Typhoid all because of unsafe water. With an increase in donations, we shall put up some structures to harvest and store safe drinking water in communities where our beneficiaries reside.
We realized a need to conserve climate as well as provision of supplements to nutrition of these children. The foundation is providing fast maturing mango, orange, guava and Jack fruit seedlings for planting in their communities. We hope to have planted 1000 fruit trees combined for these communities in Uganda and Jamaica. This is achievable with less effort since these countries experience warm tropical climates good for succulent fruits.
